How to Manage Pet Shedding?

"You'll know a dog is around when there's fur everywhere. From the floor to the couch, most dog owners face the problem of how to control their dog's shedding. Almost all dogs shed, but they shed in different rates. Some shed more than others and there are also other factors that cause them to shed heavily, such as their age, the season, health, just to name a few.

There are a few things that you can do to help minimize your dog's shedding. Below are a few tips

 Brush them

Buy a good, sturdy brush and make it a point to brush through their fur every day or every other day. This takes out all the shed and dead hair from their fur and leaves healthy and shiny hair to grow. It also helps them retain cleaner and softer hair. If you dog has degenerative myelopathy, this is going to be an easier task.

 The diet counts

You have to know what to give your dog to help keep their fur in great condition. Some dog food brands are labeled as great for coats, which means that they contain extra vitamins and minerals to help their coat from becoming brittle and dry. You can also give them food supplement for their fur.

 Protect your furniture

Cover your furniture, and even your car seat, with something that doesn't cause pet hair to stick. There are certain clothes and fabrics that actually prevent pet hair from sticking. These are a bit more expensive compared to regular covers, but it's a good investment. You can even use these to cover your dog's bed, especially if they need to lie down all day like dogs with degenerative myelopathy.

 Control fleas and allergies

Get rid of your dog's fleas by giving them a bath with medicated shampoo. You can find these in most pet stores. Some brands even offer special shampoo for short or long haired dogs. If you can't find the shampoo, use medicated soap. As for allergies, it usually boils down to food. A lot of dogs are actually allergic to chicken, but their owners give them dog food that contains some sort of poultry. Always watch what you feed to your dog and read the label.

 Vacuum often

Organize the house, keep the dust and fur off your carpet and floor and just make your whole home a cleaner place to stay for your family and pets."
